RACE: Are We So Different
Thursday, September 02, 2010
Rochester Public Library and Mayo Clinic have brought the national touring exhibit “RACE: Are We So Different?” to Rochester Public Library. Buckham Memorial Library in collaboration with the Community Center has arranged free transportation to the RACE exhibit on Thursday, September 2nd. Seating is limited. Please register in person at the Community Center. (Persons 18 years old or younger must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.) The bus departs from Buckham Center at 1 p.m. The bus will leave the Rochester Public Library at 4 p.m. for the return trip. This interactive multimedia exhibit for students, individuals and families allows exploration of race issues through scientific, historical and cultural perspectives. Explore the sorting of people by physical differences, development of the “race idea”, and human-made racial categories. Don’t miss this free opportunity! “RACE: Are We So Different?” is produced by the American Anthropological Association, with assistance from the Science Museum of Minnesota. The exhibit was made possible by funding from the National Science Foundation and the Ford Foundation. Transportation to the exhibit for public libraries is funded in part or in whole with money from the vote of the people of Minnesota on November 4, 2008, which dedicated funding to preserve Minnesota’s arts and cultural heritage.
